Immanuel & Trinity Lutheran Churches Children and Family Ministry |
About Us Immanuel and Trinity Lutheran Churches in Golden, IL have joined together to help children and families within our congregations grow in faith together, and bring the love of Jesus to children within our community. After many years of discussion, these two ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) congregations have made ministering and reaching out to the children a top priority. In July 2009, Jennie Van De Velde was hired part-time as Coordinator of Children & Family Ministry. Jennie, along with the support of the Mutual Ministry Committee, and both Church Councils and congregations, hopes to meet the needs of children and families in the Golden community, with a balance of social activities, spiritual growth opportunities, service projects, and lots of fun!

We have been having a great summer so far, sharing the love of Christ with the children and families in our congregations and community. Each Thursday afternoon, we have met at the Golden Park for Agents in Action, a program packed with Bible stories, songs, crafts, games, snacks, and more. Over the summer, we have ministered to nearly 50 kids, with a typical attendance of 24 kids. |

Additionally, we have invited parents of young children to gather twice a month for Playgroup at the Park. Despite some high temperatures, we have had terrific turnouts of 25 or so kids for these fun get-togethers. |
On August, nearly 50 kids & adults gathered at the Golden Park for a family carnival, complete with games, prizes, snacks, face painting, balloon animals, and entertainment by Klutzy the Clown. We had a great mix of familiar and new faces with this outreach to the community, and enjoyed meeting some new friends. Thanks to all who joined us and made it such a fun afternoon! Weinberg King State Park was bustling with people during Lutherfest 2010. This annual event, now in its fourth year, was held on Sunday, August 15, and hosted 175 participants, the biggest crowd yet. The group began with a contemporary worship service, with music led by Living Water, a sermon preached by Bishop Warren Freiheit, leadership shared by pastors and lay members of various congregations, and a childrens sermon delivered by the Puppet Posse of Golden. With folding chairs set up under the shade trees, the group enjoyed a nice breeze and gave thanks for the cooler break to the end of a very warm week. Following the service, attendees shared a potluck meal with culinary options to satisfy any appetite, while the younger crowd appreciated face painting and balloon animals offered by Klutzy the Clown. The evening concluded with fierce competition between volleyball teams from eight congregations. The teams played throughout the afternoon, and Immanuel Lutheran Church from Basco finally took home the traveling trophy for the tournament champions. Lutherfest 2010 was coordinated by the CROSS group (Congregations Regionally Organized for Service and Support), which includes a number of churches from the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
